In January-April 2023, our team developed a policy paper on the current situation with civic education in Ukraine, Civic Education in Ukraine in Wartime (in Ukrainian). 

The desk study covers:

• Development of civic education in Ukraine (Natalia Oliynyk)

• Legal regulation and state policy in the field of civic education in Ukraine (Volodymyr Kobryn, Yevhen Tkachenko)

• Models and best practices in civic education in the EU countries (Natalia Malynovska)

• Approaches and recommendations of international institutions in the context of peacekeeping and educational practices (Zoryana Zazuliak)

• Status and needs of civic education teachers in the context of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine (Iryna Kuzina, Maria Kolokolova)

• Key conclusions and recommendations (Yulia Bidenko)

The results of the study can be used to develop civic education disciplines; understanding the current state of civic education in Ukraine will help stakeholders in this area to analyze and develop their courses and academic programs; research on the development of civic education in states that have overcome war is important for the future of civic education in Ukraine; raising awareness of young civic leaders and university students about civic education and its role in society.
